Mobile World Congress 2013 got off to a flying start on Monday, with the show opening to a tremendous buzz. Being the first year at its new home, Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, the Mobile World capital, attendees were eager to explore the new site which is more advanced for a digitally focused audience.
To mark the change in venue, we had a completely new stand design which has received great feedback from attendees; a stand to reflect our leading and global status in the mobile messaging world and host our strategic partner Soli Interactive, a trusted messaging and direct marketing partner to brands and operators worldwide.
During day one and two of Mobile World Congress there was a plethora of announcements from vendors large and small. Notably some of the top handset manufacturers are now opting to release their biggest news pre and post show which allows lesser known brands and non-consumer facing companies to take the fore.
We made two announcements on day one with extensive coverage in leading publications such as Total Telecom, Mobile Entertainment and also made it into the official Mobile World Daily on the morning of Day 2; the first showcased the results of our new research commissioned in January 2013, looking at consumer behaviors of 1000 UK Smartphone owners, which showed that 76% of respondents now use a mix of messaging services, although 76% also stated they were still dependent on SMS. Also, 78% expressed an interest in the operator’s rich messaging service ‘joyn™’, which could reduce fragmentation in the market if it meets consumers requirements for a ubiquitous, rich services at the right price. The second was the launch of Acision Global Services, providing products and services to support our customers throughout the entire messaging lifecycle and ensuring value creation to fully utilise and maximise their investments – from early design phases through to end-of-life management and migration towards next generation technology. Along with this, we announced the first ever virtualised deployment of an MMSC platform in a live network, leading the way in future service delivery. Click here for the full press release.
On day two, we announced the availability of our leading Rich Communication Suite (RCS) services, as a hosted solution from the Acision Cloud environment. By delivering RCS from the cloud, Acision is enabling operators to launch Rich Messaging quickly and with limited up-front cost, without the need to deploy an IMS Core. Since the beginning of 2012, RCS has been offered as a key service on Acision’s consolidated messaging platform, Acision Broadband Messaging Service Centre (BMSC). Find out more here.
Along with hosting many customer, partner, press and analysts meetings, the first few days proved extremely busy for us and we hope these result in some exciting opportunities. With the GSMA, expecting over 70,000 vistors over the four days, we expect the rest of show to continue with some momentum and we’re excited to see what the rest of the week will bring. Stay tuned tomorrow for our final round up!
