It was on this day in 1992, when the first text message (SMS) reading “Merry Christmas”, was sent by a young telecoms engineer, Neil Papworth, to his colleagues. This simple SMS defined the very nature of text messaging, which later became a global phenomenon and the cornerstone of mobile communication.
Only a year later, in 1993, the first commercial deployment of a short message service centre (SMSC) was installed at Telia (now TeliaSonera) by Aldiscon, which is now known as Acision. During this time, Acision has played a dominant role in helping shape mobile messaging into the communication platform we know and love today, while supporting its growth globally.
In celebration of this milestone, we have launched 'The Art of Messaging’, a dedicated blog site to share our experiences and thoughts on the world of messaging, in particular the increasing demand for rich messaging services. Click here to view.
This week we will look back at the past twenty years of SMS and showcase how this underestimated platform has grown to become the most popular mobile communication service in the world, and the impact it has had our lives in more ways than anyone ever imagined.

So we say HpE BDay SMS! We look forward to seeing what the next 20 years will bring!
